Northern Iceland (Part One)

Shot on 5 September 2008. The video begins as we sail through the fjord Eyaja in Akureyri, Iceland. Stop one after disembarking the ship is the GoĆ°afoss (Icelandic: waterfall of the gods) one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. Next we visit the boiling mud holes on Nanafjall. Part one ends on the Myvatn, a shallow eutrophic lake located in an area of active volcanism in the north of Iceland, not far from Krafla volcano. The lake and surrounding wetlands have anexceptionally rich fauna of water birds, especially ducks. The lake was created by a large lava eruption 2300 years ago, and the surrounding landscape by volcanic landforms, including lava pillars and rootless dominated vents (pseudocraters).
